Battlefield 3 classes
Battlefield 3 will feature 4 classes (or kits), much like previous Battlefield games. The classes are varied and each can serve two or more purposes, for example, the assault class can be team oriented with a med kit and defibrillator, or more offensive with a grenade launcher. All classes have dedicated weapons which can be only used by that class, while there is also a wide selection of weapons available to all classes, weapons like SMGs.

The Assault Class in Battlefield 3 can be equipped to handle two roles:
it can act as a regular assault class with assault rifles equipped with
grenade launchers, or it can act as a medic, swapping the grenade
launcher for a defibrillator in order to revive teammates and a med kit
to heal teammates. The Assault class in Battlefield 3 starts out with
two main assault rifles: the M16A4 for the US and AK74M for the Russians.

Assault tips
Playing the Assault class, it’s best to decide which direction you want to go: offensive with the grenade launcher, or more of a team role with the med kit and defibrillator. The assault class is great at virtually all ranges and in most combat situations, which makes it one of the most versatile classes in Battlefield 3.

The Support class in Battlefield 3 is equipped with a heavy machine gun
capable of delivering great suppressive fire against enemies. The
support class also serves a “support” in a literal sense: to resupply
ammo to teammates. The support class can either go heavy, with a light machine gun
which can be mounted on surfaces with a bipod, or they can go light,
with an infantry assault rifle, which provides more mobility and
accuracy. The starting weapons for the support class in Battlefield 3
are the M27 for the US, and the RPK for the Russians.

Support tips
The support class can be extended beyond its main role as a machine gunner and ammo resupplier: the support in Battlefield 3 has many other options, such as the ability to carry C4 explosives, which are useful against enemy vehicles, buildings and much more. Furthermore, the Support can deploy a 60mm mortar, which gives it great long-range capability against enemy vehicles and infantry who have dug themselves in. But always remember that you carry that ammo pack, and to resupply your teammates with it.

The Engineer class in Battlefield 3 serves as the main anti-vehicle
class, designed to engage both land and air vehicles with an array of rocket launchers.
The engineer also serves an important team role: to repair friendly
vehicles. The engineer class in Battlefield 3 starts out with an M4A1
carbine for the US side, while the Russian side starts with an AKS-74M.
On top of that, the US has a SMAW rocket launcher, while the Russian has
an RPG-7.

Engineer tips
The Engineer is most useful against enemy land vehicles with rocket launchers, and enemy aircraft with anti-air missiles such as the Stinger and Igla. On top of that, the engineer can remote control an EOD bot, which can repair vehicles and disarm mines, and a mobile UAV to spot enemies. The engineer is likely the most team-oriented class in Battlefield 3, as it can serve many roles and purposes on the Battlefield 3, but always keep in mind that your main objective is to engage enemy vehicles and repair your own.

The Recon in Battlefield 3 is the sniper class — well suited for long range combat with an assortment of sniper rifles,
both bolt action and semi automatic ones. But that doesn’t mean the
recon class is limited ot long range in battlefield 3, as the recon can
use a variety of weapons, such as SMGs and shotguns for close quarter
combat. In addition, the recon plays an important team role in
Battlefield 3, where recons can set up a spawn point, motion sensor, and
more. The recon starts out with two main sniper rifles: the MK11 for
the US, and the SVD for the Russians.

Recon tips
While the recon is best suited at long ranges with a sniper rifle, it doesn’t mean it’s limited to that role. You can equip a semi automatic sniper rifle with less powerful scope (like a 4X), which would make you very useful at medium and close ranges. Furthermore, you can help your squad by placing a mobile spawn point close to the action, and you can deploy a motion sensor that detects nearby enemies.
